Hi, I'm Plato, well my real name is Aristocles but my nickname was Platon so people call me Plato. I was born in Athens in 428 BC, when I was young I studied music and poetry. I was in the military from 409 BC to 404 BC after that I went to join the Athenian oligarchy of the Thirty Tyrants because my uncle Charmides was one of the leaders. I left after a year because it was too violent, I thought of going into politics in Athens but after my friend Socrates execution I decided not to.

After Socrates death I went on a trip for 12 years, I went all over the world and studied the philosophy of my contemporaries, geometry, geology, astronomy and religion. During this time I started to write, most of what I wrote during this 12 year time had a lot of Socrates teaching. Around 387 BC I returned to Athens and I established a school called the Academy, we taught astronomy, biology, mathematics, political theory, and philosophy.

My writings after 387 BC were less influenced by Socrates because I wanted to make my own legacy. My favorite writing I did was The Republic, I talked about the virtues of justice, courage, wisdom, and moderation, of the individual and in society. I pretty much put every piece of my thought and ideas in The Republic.

My best pupil Aristotle started to study at The Academy around 365 BC, For the rest of my life I pretty much spent my time writing and conversing. In my final writings I discusses art, including dance, music, poetry, architecture and drama, and ethics in regards to immortality, the mind, and Realism. I died in 347 BC.

How is my work is related to educational psychology:

Chapter 2

In chapter 2 the textbook talks about physical, personal, social, and cognitive development. In the picture above it explains my theory of cognitive development. My belief is that there is a certain curriculum that should be followed during each step in order to benefit the child the most. Piaget's 4 stages of cognitive development are very similar to mine even though we are from different time periods.
